SHOW #17

BARBARA BEYER
“Give & Take 1×1 and Give & Take 1×2”

It is a pleasure to show two sculptures by the brilliant Barbara Beyer. These were purchased by my son as part of the Fresh Air Sculpture 2025 Exhibition as part of the ECCO Scheme which encourages young people to become collectors. Barbara kindly donated these small sculptures to the show and they were snapped up by him.

Barbara Beyer is an artist who works with a variety of materials. She uses clay to explore basic sculptural processes. The ongoing series, Give and Take, started in 2021 and addresses the economy of making, such as cutting a line in the clay leading to a furrow and a rod, building material for a new shape.

Barbara placed a full size group of distorted cubes specifically made to sit by the brook at Fresh Air Sculpture this year –  and they reference some of the retired mechanical objects left in the garden, in particular the iron roller and the water wheel.

This time – these two maquette sized “Give and Take” sculptures are placed  in the Gallery of the Giants  with observers – who as ever challenge our sense of scale and reality and for a moment make these small objects monumental.
